Morning everyone, well not quite...Mondays have that effect on me.
Smashing photos Maureen, not another person in sight either.
Its a typical autumn (who decided to put an 'n' on the end...its barmy) day here Inga, cold, cloudy and wet. Temp about 9c/48f.
Ian is determined he wants lots of cards for his birthday, I'll have to see what I can do for him.

Morning everyone, its a lovely bright and sunny day. I hope Vivienne is enjoying herself. She should be finished chopping up the logs for the fire tonight. Can't wait to hear of her adventures when she gets back.

Hello Sid - I agree that "n" in autumn is pretty much useless. It's kind of strange but, for a change, it's actually a little colder here today than where you are. High is going to be 43! It's sunny, though and therefore easier to tolerate. It's supposed to warm up a little later on in the week but there's no getting around the fact that winter is here. I hate it and would certainly not undertake what Vivienne is up to. Nor would I do what some friends of mine in Germany do: they rent a cabin on the beach in Denmark in February! Thanks but no thanks!

Evening everyone, hope you are all well. If our weather people have their charts right Inga we are in for a very cold and windy weekend. Some of our newspapers mention 'arctic' conditions, but that's probably an exaggeration, just to sell more papers.

A popular tv show has started here in the UK. It's called "I'm a celebrity...get me out of here". A selection of folk who are 'known' to viewers, maybe actors, sports folk, singers and even the odd politician are flown to Australia, dropped in the 'jungle' and have to do things to get food. The website is www.itv.com/ As I say its popular hers, maybe not for the contestants.

See, I knew I should have previewed it..."as I say it's popular here", not 'hers', as I wrote.

Hello Sid, good to hear from you. Hope Vivienne will make it in view of the fact that it will even get colder!
I have heard of this TV show you mentioned but since I don't have a TV set, I have never seen it but I think there is something similar on American TV. I am trying to think what it is called....Survivor or something like it. I am going "next door" now :-)

I've just called in to dust and fill the kettle before Vivienne gets back.
I fancy she'll be hugging the combi boiler with new found love at the moment.lol.

I am looking forward to seeing Vivienne's pictures!
What's a combi boiler?

Sid said...

I'm sure you will have one, its a combination boiler. It provides hot water for your central heating and domestic use. One unit combines two jobs.

Inga said...

Sid, have never come across a combi boiler. People in town heat with natural gas, in the country they use LP gas. If you are using water to heat I take it you have radiators? What energy source do you use for this combi boiler?

Sid said...

Hello everyone,
Inga, you got it in one, the combi boiler uses natural gas to heat water for radiators, it has a built in electric pump to circulate the water.
As I write I hope that Ian's show from last night is being downloaded onto a dvd. I say hope because its taking its time.
Its a chilly evening here, overnight temps of -3c are predicted.

Vivienne,
Where Are You?

Hi Folks!

I'm back Sid. We arrived about 5pm. My sister came home with me for a couple of days, as we're going to a concert tomorrow night. We've been busy trying to warm up my house now!

We had a lovely few days in the Lakes, and our cottage was charming. It was situated less than 5mins walk from the most magnificent view over Tarn Hows. Yes, it was very cold, but we had taken warm clothes, and lots of candles and even my gaz (camping) stove, in case we had problems with the fire and / or oven.

We learned that Beatrix Potter bought the cottage in 1930, and leased it to friends. Later that year she passed on the cottage to the National Trust.

When we eventually braved the shower, we found the water was wonderfully hot. We were pleased to find a shed filled with a good supply of logs, so didn't really need to use my axe. Yes, I took one with me!

On the way home we were amazed to find a covering of snow on the Hartside & Alston Hills! We drove from the golden Autumn sun and burnished colours, into Christmas card scenes of pine trees in the snow. I even saw a deer on a country road near Stocksfield.

Well, must go now,

Love, Vivienne xxx

p.s. I've enjoyed catching up with all your news, but where's Maureen?

Vivienne, where on earth are you. Had it not been for your last e-mail I would have called out the nearest Mountain Rescue Team by now.

Hi Sid,

Sorry, I've been rather busy since I returned. I took Shirley to Newcastle for her bus yesterday afternoon, then called to see my younger sister. She invited me to stay for roast beef and yorkshires, as all her family were coming for tea. I stayed until about 9pm, and was quite tired when I got home.

Today I've been catching up with a few jobs, then met up with friends for a meal at Winlaton Mill. The Golden Lion have a promotion on at present between 4-7pm. Whatever time you order your meal between those times you get a two course special at the cost of the time of your meal. We ordered ours at 5.25pm and we were charged £5.25 each!

When I returned I've been messing on posting my Tarn Hows pictures, and updating my blogs. I've also been looking for an email for Inga, but I can't find it.

I'll have another srearch tomorrow, Inga. The problem is that I can't remember when I sent Ian that email, and I'm hoping it isn't on my old laptop in Outlook Express, as I still can't access it via Broadband!

Well, I must away to bed, as they say. Don't ask me who says it, as I don't know!

Night, night!

Love Vivienne xxx
