It's great to see the gang back doing the rounds.
Don't forget to call in at Jedburgh when you're out and about. You have my number...

Hi Vivienne,
thought I should drop you a little note to let you know that the extraordinary agm at Springwell tomorrow is not happening. Ian tried to juggle his timetable for the day but concluded that he wouldn't be able to do it. I know you'll probably have gathered this if you have read Truckshunters ... as there is no mention of it .... but I just thought I'd make sure you know. xxx

Hi Sid & Hildie,

Many thanks for your messages. Sid, we missed you at Birkheads, but I'm pleased Gillian is well enough for you to enjoy this lovely weather at Jedburgh. Sorry, I planned to write to ask how she was, but somehow didn't do so!

Hildie, I just remembered about the extraordinary AGM half way through this morning, after a long chat with my sister on the phone. Carolyn had text to see if I could recall the playground game of, 'Cut the Cake.' She wanted to play it with her class, but couldn't remember the rules/ chant etc. We remembered a child in the centre of a circle of children who were holding hands. The child in the centre had to 'cut' through the 'cake' of hands, then the two children whose hands had been cut raced in opposite directions around the outside of the circle back to their places. We can't remember whether it was the first or second child to return who then went in the middle. That was when I thought about you two. I thought Sid or Hildie may know the rest of the game.... then I remembered about Bowes Railway! If either of you can recall any other details, Carolyn would be glad to know them.

Sid, I have thought of calling in at Jedwater during my travels to Edinburgh, but I'm not that organised! My friend's mum, with whom I've stayed in Gullane near Edinburgh, fell before Christmas, and has been in hospital ever since. She fell during the night, with her alarm out of reach. As well as fracturing her femur, her knee was trapped underneath & she couldn't move. She lay for a few hours until managing to retrieve her alarm. Her knee injury has caused the main problems, as she'd fallen on it previously on two or three occasions. Now she is almost bedridden, and is becoming very confused. Such a contrast from the independent and assertive lady I visited a week before her fall. She is currently in the Royal Victoria Infirmary, to the west of Edinburgh. It's almost a three hour drive, & was very tiring returning in the dark. It's much better now with the light evenings. (It didn't help that I kept getting lost around Edinburgh, but now know the route much better)

This weekend I've been waiting for a call from Kwik Fit to say a part has arrived to sort out my handbrake. After the AGM I took in my car to have the winter tyres replaced, and asked them to adjust the handbrake. As you know things aren't as simple as that!!! I needed two rear brake pads and discs, plus three new tyres. There was an offer on for four new tyres so opted for that. So £716 later I drove away with the promise of a phone call to let me know the price of the caliper (or whatever). That is to be another £170, but has to be ordered in.

I doubt I'll get a call tomorrow, so if you aren't doing anything special Sid, I'd love to come up and see you, Jean & Gillian. Don't worry if you have other arrangements, as I'll visit some other time.

Lots of love,

Vivienne xxx

Hi again,

Well that's my plans scuppered! Just heard from Kwik Fit. Part came in over weekend...but no-one phoned to tell me! I better go now to have my car repaired, as I'm at Gibside tomorrow.

Lots of love,
