Poor old girl has been alone since the sudden demise of her two little pals. It looks like the fox has got the better of her at last, as sadly there was no sign of her on Tuesday.We named her 'Gertie' only last week. She looked splendid as she'd grown new tail feathers since taking this photo at Christmas.

That's such a shame. Nature in the wild can be such a battle, especially when the weather has been so cold and unforgiving.
If they overhaul the fencing will they replace the hens and chicks.

Lydia was planning to get another batch in a couple of weeks or so, as she knew how lonely Gertie had become, and chickens are so popular with the Visitors. I don't know whether she'll bother now. I'm still hoping Gertie will reappear. Perhaps she followed some Visitors into a room and got shut in. However I think it's unlikely!
